The exposition " Lutherie Inouïe" will complete the activities and pedagogic missions of Lutherie Urbaine.  These two expositions, the " carnets de voyage "/”travel journal” by Anne Cotrel and " Lutherie Inouïe " are priceless illuminations on the work undertaken by Lutherie Urbaine.

Exposition "Lutherie Inouïe"

The exposition " Lutherie Inouïe " in co-production with the Conseil Général de Seine-Saint-Denis has as its vocation to help a wide public discover the entire sonorous and plastic current production.

" Lutherie Inouïe " proposes a journey, through " instrumental specimens " originating from modern-day currents in new stringed-instrumentation, and instruments with a pedagogic dimension ordered specifically by the luthiers of Seine-Saint-Denis.

Each year, "Lutherie Inouïe" is enriched with new instruments which widen the sonorous palette of today’s composers and also is enriched through the creation of a new breeds of  instrumentalists.

The exposition "Lutherie Inouïe" is composed of two parts:

- the productions of “luthiers” residing in Seine-Saint-Denis, as requested by the Conseil Général de Seine Saint Denis (which provides funds for the instruments)

 - a collection of unpublished instruments, created by the luthiers Urbs of Lutherie Urbaine, according to its principles of Lutherie/stringed-instrument recycling.

" Lutherie Inouïe " is a modular exposition which can be presented either in his entirety, partially under a specific theme, or on particular types of instruments.

Lutherie Urbaine uses these atypical instruments in a fun, pedagogic journey (interpretive visits, musical interludes) that provide a progressive and lively approach.

Travel books

Anne Cotrel, plastic artist, elaborates the exposition themes through a long series of “collectage” then transformation of pictures, collages, watercolors and paintings.  Thus feeling familiar with the approach and method of Lutherie Urbaine, she has proposed to accompany Jean-Louis Mechali and the Urbs on all of their distant trips and to provide a unique perspective on all that happens there.

The subjects for the expositions that have already been produced were in Mozambique, Corsica and Yemen.  They will continue according to the perferred progression of future creations of Lutherie Urbaine.  Our hope is to see her, through her work, in our residences and concerts.

The watercolors above and details opposite were painted in November 04 at a rehearsal class at the Centre culturel franco-mozambicain in Maputo (Mozambique).
